The wait is over. The Open Call for the seventh edition of FAT Festival (Festival of Authorial Theatre) is now officially open.
Taking place from 27 to 29 November 2026 at Toplocentrala – Regional Centre for Contemporary Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, this year’s festival is dedicated entirely to monodrama under the theme RESISTANCE.
Following the announcement of the festival’s new artistic direction and international vision, FAT Festival now presents the first tangible steps of its renewed identity. Alongside the Open Call, the festival introduces its new visual language and begins unveiling a growing network of international partnerships, with additional collaborators and partner festivals to be announced in the coming months.

The 2026 edition invites professional artists and theatre companies working in the field of monodrama to submit original performances that engage with the festival’s theme through contemporary authorial theatre. FAT Festival continues to support bold artistic voices, original stage languages and works that respond to the urgencies of our time with a strong personal perspective.
Ana Bateva, Artistic Director of FAT Festival, shares:
“For us, authorial theatre is not defined by form but by necessity. Every genuine artistic impulse finds its own theatrical language, structure and way of reaching an audience. Whether through newly created texts, devised practices, documentary approaches, movement, multimedia or hybrid forms, authorial expression begins with an authentic artistic need and the search for a unique theatrical language. FAT Festival is a place where these diverse voices can meet and exist side by side.”

We invite artists who share this belief in the transformative power of authorial theatre to join FAT Festival 2026. The Open Call is now open for works that explore new theatrical languages, personal perspectives and the possibilities of monodrama under the theme RESISTANCE.
